Vijaynagar Catholic Church was established in November 1976 under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Luis Maria Espasa, SJ. It was started on a 3946 sq. mtr. small hill called Upla Ghodia. On 1st June 1980, Fr. Domingo Larumbe SJ substituted him. In two years the mission complex was transferred to Saroli, 1.5km from Vijayanagar town, where 10 acres of land was acquired for Catholic Church and Adivasi Sevalaya Educational Trust, St. Mary’s High School and the Boarding for boys. All these institutions have been established on the campus. The Sisters of Charity of St. Anne arrived in 1993 and established their Convent on an adjoining plot of land. They run the boarding for girls and a dispensary. In 2005 two Christian Brothers established their community and collaborate in the school and mission work for two years. The parish currently has about 3040 members.
