Religious of Jesus and Mary

The Religious of Jesus Mary (Religieuses de Jésus-Marie, acronym R.J.M.) is a Roman Catholic religious congregation for education. It was founded at Lyon, France, in October 1818, by Claudine Thévenet, in religion, Mary of St. Ignatius (Marie Saint Ignace). She was canonized in 1993; her feast day is February 3. In 1842, Lyons sent a colony to India, where twelve houses were set up, including ones at Bombay, Poona, Lahore, Simla, and Agra.

The Religious of Jesus and Mary came to work in Palanpur in July 1997, invited by Bishop Stanislaus Fernandes the then Bishop of Ahmedabad Diocese. The rented house in Panchvati Society was their first home from where they organized their apostolate under the guidance of Parish Priest Fr. Isidore Almeida. As the horizon of mission work widened, In June 1999, they shifted to the Ashram site and started a Co-Ed. School with Gujarati and English medium and a boarding for tribal girls. At present the school has reached to the Higher Secondary level.
