Archbishop of Gandhinagar Archdiocese
“Called to serve, chosen to shepherd.”
Archbishop Thomas Ignatius Macwan was born on October 14, 1952, in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. Responding to the Lord’s call with a heart of deep faith and humility, he entered the priesthood and was ordained on April 9, 1989, for the Archdiocese of Ahmedabad.
After years of devoted pastoral service and spiritual leadership, he was appointed the Bishop of Ahmedabad on November 11, 2002, and consecrated on January 11, 2003, by Archbishop Stanislaus Fernandes. His episcopal motto, “Serve in Love”, became a hallmark of his ministry — touching lives, empowering the poor, and fostering spiritual renewal across parishes.
On June 12, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him as the Archbishop of Gandhinagar, entrusting him with the mission of guiding the faithful with wisdom, compassion, and unwavering fidelity to Christ and His Church.
