Modasa, Karunasagar Isu Mandir

Modasa is an important town of Sabarkantha where Fr. William Pius Macwan, SJ, established ‘Sangath’ to provide legal aid to the needy people of the surrounding talukas. He stayed in a rented place and was instrumental in buying the present property for the Parish.

The Modasa Parish was established in 1988 and Fr. Valerian Dias was appointed first Parish Priest. The Swasraya Hostel for college students was started by the Jesuit Fathers. The Carmelites of Charity of Vedruna have opened in Modasa a Secretarial Course and Hostel for girls and a Health Center for the sick and for the training of health workers. The Jesuit Fathers and Vedruna Sisters also move out to the villages for community animation programmes. The Parish ministers mainly to the few migrant Catholic families from other missions of Sabarkantha, Gujarat and South India. The parish currently has about 126 members.
