Every person is created with a divine purpose. Some are called to marriage and family life, some to service in society, and others to the sacred call of priesthood or consecrated life. The Vocation Promotion Commission helps young people recognise, discern, and respond to God’s unique call in their lives.
This ministry is not about recruiting; it is about listening, accompanying, and praying with those who are searching for meaning. It is about whispering into the hearts of the young:
“You are called. You are chosen. God has a plan for you.”
The Church flourishes when her sons and daughters rise to say “yes” to God in total surrender. The priest at the altar, the sister at the bedside, the brother in the mission school, each one reflects the face of Christ. But vocations do not arise in a vacuum. They need careful nurturing, prayerful discernment, and pastoral guidance.
This commission exists to cultivate that sacred soil.
1. Vocation Camps and Discernment Retreats:
The commission organises annual vocational camps for boys and girls who feel drawn to the priesthood or religious life. These camps include prayer, personal testimonies, spiritual talks, and moments of silence to help participants listen to God.
2. School and Parish Outreach:
Our priests and religious visit schools, youth groups, and parishes to share about vocations. Personal stories, Eucharistic adoration, and Q&A sessions help demystify religious life and plant seeds of inspiration.
3. One-on-One Accompaniment:
Young people often need personal spiritual guidance. The commission offers mentoring, direction, and spiritual companionship to those discerning a life of total consecration.
4. Parental Awareness and Support:
Parents play a vital role in encouraging vocations. Through sessions and home visits, we help families see the joy and honour of having a priest or religious in their family, and encourage them not to fear but to bless their child’s call.
5. Promotion of Prayer for Vocations:
Prayer is the foundation of this ministry. The commission promotes parish-wide Eucharistic adoration, vocation rosaries, and special prayers for vocations, especially on Thursdays and during Vocation Sunday.
Many young people today are hesitant or confused about choosing a path of total surrender. This ministry gently walks with them, helping them overcome fear, societal pressure, and self-doubt.
As Pope Francis says:
“Vocation is a call from the Lord and a gift of the Church. It takes courage to say yes.”
Through the Vocation Promotion Commission, the Church becomes a loving mother, calling her children to greatness and holiness.
We believe that every vocation is a gift, and every “yes” helps build the Body of Christ.
