Christmas and New Year’s celebration in Siddhpur Parish

The Christmas mood was brought in with the lighting of the Advent Candles, getting an Advent-Christmas friend to pray for with meaningful celebrations of Liturgy and decorating homes, making the crib and Christmas tree at every Catholic home of Siddhpur Mission Parish. The Christmas midnight Eucharist was presided over by His Grace Stanislaus Fernandes and concelebrated by Fr. Xavier James. As is the custom, the Crib was incensed and also babe Jesus and after the customary prayer of the Faithful, every family placed a small lighted lamp before the altar assisted by the prayer made by the head of the family. After the Eucharistic celebration, three parishioners who shared their birthdays with Jesus were wished and the Archbishop cut the Christmas cake and distributed Christmas gifts to everyone. Thereafter there was much joy when the secret santa gifts were exchanged among friends. In the evening everyone gathered at Shaji Sir’s home for Christmas dinner.

On 31st December 2014 at 11 p.m., the last hour of the year all the parishioners gathered to render thanks to the Lord for the year which was ending within few minutes. The thanksgiving service was in vernacular languages as well as in English. It was beautifully conducted by the parishioners. On 1st January 2015 at 12 am we sang the Gloria and participated in the Holy Eucharist on the solemnity of the Motherhood of Mary and beginning of New Year 2015. In the evening, all the parishioners had gathered at Joy Sir’s house for prayer and dinner and everyone was given a New Year gift. We were glad to have guest priests Frs. Augustine and Lawrence from Mehsana.
